What is vitamin D
Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin, essential for bones, immune function and heart health.
It is commonly called the “sunshine vitamin”, because the body produces vitamin D when directly exposed to sunlight.

Vitamin D3, the form the sun makes
Two major forms of vitamin D are vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) and vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). Both absorb into the bloodstream, but they are not equal when raising and sustaining vitamin D levels.
The vitamin D3 in Atomy Vitamin D3 comes from lichen (Cladonia rangiferina).

Ergocalciferol form. Mostly produced in plants and fungi.

Cholecalciferol form.

Atomy Vitamin D3 contains 2000 IU, 250% of the daily recommended amount.
Limited sun exposure and use of sunscreen can lead to insufficient levels of vitamin D.
The Recommended Dietary Allowance is 600 IU (15 mcg) for ages 14 to 70 and 800 IU (20 mcg) over 70. Atomy Vitamin D3 has 2000 IU (50 mcg).
